The Branch held its AGM on 28 March 2017. The meeting was well attended and ran smoothly. Our Secretary, Mrs Pam Roche, gave a comprehensive report on all the diverse events and activities in which the Branch was involved in the past year. Our Treasurer, Mr Paddy O’Reilly, reported that our financial situation is healthy. Our Welfare Officer, Mrs Gilly Beare, reported on our welfare activities and emphasised the extent of visits made and phone calls and awards to those who met the criteria for help. Mrs Beare is also our Membership Secretary and she reported that our membership is down but we still have over 200 members. Gilly has filled two very difficult roles in the Branch with great skill and dedication. Her efforts were recognised earlier in the year by the award of the Denis Emes Shield. Our Chairman, Pete McWilliams, thanked all those individuals and organisations who helped and supported the Branch in the past year. He especially thanked all the Committee and members who contribute generously to the upkeep of the Branch and to our Wings Appeal. He appealed to all the members to try to recruit new members. New members are vital to the Branch’s survival and to maintaining a welfare presence in the Republic of Ireland so that we can continue to look after our friends in need. He reported that the RAF Association overall increased its membership for the first time in 20 years. Total membership now stands at 65, 500.
At the AGM, our new Branch President, Alan Harrisson B.E.M. was elected. He took over from our outstanding, dedicated and long-serving retiring President , Jim Kelly M.B.E. Congratulations to Alan, the Branch is in good hands. Warm tributes were paid to Jim and he received a standing ovation. Our Chairman presented Jim with a plaque in recognition of his massive contribution to the Branch down the years.
Our current Treasurer, Paddy O’Reilly stood down at the AGM. Sqn Ldr John Burke RAF (retired) was elected to take over from Paddy. Paddy has worked quietly and diligently behind the scenes and has done a magnificent job on keeping our finances in order. Paddy was thanked warmly for his hard work and dedication.
We all thank Mrs June L’Estrange for her good work as a committee member. She stood down at the AGM.
We all look forward to a very busy but exciting year ahead. We shall be at the Bray Air Display again this year, thanks to Bray Municipal District. Please drop by our stand and say hello. Also, please continue to support our monthly socials on the last Sunday of every month.
Thank you all warmly for your generosity and support. Remember, without you there would not be a Branch.

We all had a very enjoyable evening at our Annual Dinner on 20 September 2016. We were honoured and privileged to have Her Majesty’s Ambassador Robin Barnet CMG, Brigadier General Paul Fry, GOC, Irish Air Corps and Mrs Fry and Colonel Max Walker, Defence Attaché and Mrs Walker as our distinguished guests. It was a great pleasure to have our friends from the ONE, the Royal British Legion and other veterans’ organisations with us. We were especially delighted to have some World War 2 veterans among our guests.
Brigadier-General Fry was our guest speaker and he gave a superb speech which was greatly enjoyed by all. The dinner was an ideal way to welcome the Ambassador and for him to get to know some of our members.
